Hi, I’m Sara.


I’m a storytelling detective, searching for the best narratives, data and anecdotes, and figuring out how to share them with the outside world.


I combine messaging, copywriting and design to bring values-forward narratives to life.

I’m a strategic and pragmatic communicator with a track record of success building campaigns within and about rapidly evolving organizations. I love being a storytelling detective, searching for the best narratives, data and anecdotes, and figuring out how to share them with the outside world. After nearly two decades in agency (OutCast) and in-house (Etsy, Zocdoc) communications, I took time off last year to complete a graphic design certificate, adding design thinking and visual storytelling skills to my toolbox. Since then, I’ve completed a number of freelance consulting projects ranging from branding to creative strategy to social media. I’m passionate about craftsmanship, authenticity, doing well by doing good, and the power of values-aligned business.

I'm equal parts big-picture creativity and down-to-earth realism. I love brainstorming what’s possible (and impossible!) but I follow everything up with structure and documentation so nothing slips through the cracks. My approach centers on building deep relationships, internally and externally, in order to create positive results. I’ve worked closely with internal teams and executives across Marketing/Design, Product/Engineering, Legal, Security, Sales, Finance, Data, Customer Service, Policy, Advocacy/Government Relations and CSR, and I’m not afraid to roll up my sleeves in order to dig in deep, posing questions that unpack complex topics, and creating clarity and alignment to move forward. One of my oft-praised skills is being a keen observer of multiple perspectives and the broader landscape, to identify weaknesses and strengths in our story, anticipate outcomes, and prepare accordingly.

I’m an empathetic manager and leader focused on empowering team members to hone their strengths while building new skills, creating best practices for cascading information and project collaboration, and helping to distinguish signal from noise for better prioritization and influence. Lastly, I embrace a learning culture, celebrating both moments of excellence and lessons learned as ways to evolve my own/my team’s thinking, as well as future approaches.

When I’m not working, I’m daydreaming about swimming holes, flea markets, interior design, cultural events (remember museums? and the ballet? :) and colorful wardrobes.
